ClipClapCycling
ClipClap makes cycling more efficient and attractive by developing innovative and sustainable solutions such as the first clipless pedal adapter that turns any shoe into a clipless shoe in seconds.
Innovative and functional bike accessories
ClipClapCycling GmbH develops innovative and functional bicycle accessories under the ClipClap brand.
The first product is a clipless pedal adapter that makes it possible to convert any shoe into a professional clipless shoe in a matter of seconds.
The adapter is more efficient and safer than alternatives such as straps and cages, lighter than most clipless shoes and easier to store than any other cycling shoe.
The company also develops other cutting-edge goods that improve the efficiency and appeal of cycling in daily life and travel.
Short transportation routes and sustainable raw materials are always the main priorities.
How did you get together as a team?
We studied mechanical engineering and product design & process development. We got to know each other during our Master's degree and immediately hit it off.
Vero told me (Jannik) about her idea and I was immediately enthusiastic. Since then, we have been working together to develop the product and bring it to market.
During our studies, we were able to gain a lot of experience in product development and prototyping, which we were able to use for our clipless pedal adapter. We really enjoy turning ideas into reality and bringing completely new products onto the market. With ClipClap, we think we've made a pretty good start.
We love cycling, want to make your experience even better and shape the future of cycling with our developments.
How did you come up with your idea?
Why is there really no practical solution for click pedals?
When Vero was still riding through her hometown of Monterrey, in northern Mexico, she was already considering this question. She finally had time to carefully consider how to create an adapter that would transform any sneaker into a clipless shoe during the lockdown in the spring of 2020.
At the time, Vero had been living in Cologne. She met Jannik at the KISD (Köln International School of Design) while pursuing her master's degree, and she instantly clicked with him about her project.
Jannik's experience in mechanical engineering allowed the two of them to collaborate in bringing the innovative concept to market.
What are you studying/working or what have you studied?
We both completed a Master's degree in Product Design & Process Development at the TH Cologne.
Vero previously studied industrial design in Monterrey and Jannik studied mechanical engineering in Dortmund.
We both gained professional experience after our bachelor's degrees. Vero in the event industry as a designer for festival stages and Jannik as a sales engineer and project manager for high-performance tube bending machines.
Funfact
Jannik likes drinking coffee so much that he has his coffee machine right next to his bed.
Vero can write with both hands.
What has Gateway ESC helped you with?
We've already gained a lot of insights and knowledge at the Gateway Accelerator thanks to exciting and informative workshops. Networking with the other start-ups and the advice from the coaches helps us enormously.
We also have a workplace at Innodom and TH Köln, where we can also use machines such as 3D printers and laser systems.
